Service Learning at
Saint Louis University

"There are two educations. One should teach us how to make a living,
and the other how to live"

- James Truslow Adams

Welcome to the home of Service-Learning at Saint Louis University! Whether you are a faculty member looking to make it a part of your curriculum, a student looking for a Service-Learning course, or a community organization looking to form a partnership, here you can find information and resources on Service-Learning at Saint Louis University.

Realizing the importance of Service-Learning in furthering Jesuit ideals, and recognizing a need to provide more assistance to faculty and students desiring to incorporate Service-Learning pedagogy, in 2006 SLU initiated a collaborative Student Affairs-Academic Affairs partnership. Such a collaboration seeks to intentionally create holistic learning experiences for students and a means to institutionalize civic engagement. Our goal is to move to the collaborative model of Service-Learning in which students, faculty and community partners come together as co-learners and co-teachers.

What's New With Service-Learning?

Service Learning is now part of the Center for Service and Community Engagement!

Beginning in the Fall of 2009, Saint Louis University has opened the brand new Center for Service and Community Engagement, intended to bring together students, faculty, staff, and community partners through service, community-based learning, and research.

Located in Tegeler Hall 317, the Center will create a coordinated interface between the University and the urban communities that surround it, seeking ultimately to prepare participants to be effective servant leaders and agents for social change, as well as to foster the creation of a just and equitable society by supporting efforts of students, faculty, and staff in the areas of community service, service learning, academic research, and community partnerships.
